  Law & Company Secretary


    A Company Secretary has been recognised by various enactments as one of the principle officers of the company. The knowledge and training acquired by him makes him versatile to carry out various functions in Finance. Accounts, Legal and Personnel Administration in addition to his own secretarial duties and responsibilities.

    Foundation course after + 2

    After + 2 a student is eligible to take the Foundation Course.

    Earlier admission in Company Secretaryship Course of the Institute was open only to candidates possessing minimum graduate degree. The Institute now has introduced Foundation Course for Senior Secondary (10+2 or equivalent) pass students desiring to join Company Secretaryship Course.

    Eligibility : Students who have passed Senior Secondary (10+2 or its equivalent) examination in any stream can join the course.

    Duration : Foundation course is of 8 month duration and students enrolled upto 31st March can take examination in December in the same year and those enrolled upto 30th September can take examination in June next year subject to satisfactory completion of coaching and other formalities.

    Subjects : The subjects are–
    • Englishand Business Communication
    • Business Law and Management
    • Financial Accounting
    • Basic economics & Business Environment
    • Information systems and Quantitative Techniques

    Examination : Examination is conducted twice a year, in June and December.

    Qualifying marks : A student is declared to have passed the Foundation examination if he/she secures at one sitting a minimum of 40 percent marks in each subject and 50 percent marks in the aggregate of all subjects.

    After passing course : Candidates who pass the Foundation examination are eligible to seek registration as students for the Company Secretaryship Course (Intermediate).

    Entry for Graduates

    The course is of 18 months duration but offers partial exemptions to some categories of applicants. The course completes after a preliminary, intermediate and final examination.
    Exemption from preliminary examination : Exemption is granted to those who hold one of the following qualifications:

    • A Degree in Corporate Secretaryship or Commerce.
    • National Diploma in Commerce awarded by All India Council for Technical Education.
    • Pass in the Final Examination of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India or the Chartered Accountants of India.
    • Degree in any discipline other than Fine Arts with 50% or more in the aggregate in all the subject.
    • Masters in any discipline other than Fine Arts.
    • Degree in any discipline other than Fine Arts with a diploma in Commerce, Company Secretarial Practice or Management awarded by Government or any University or any educational professional institution recognized by the Council.

  • Preliminary Examination : Following subjects are covered :

    • Business Organisation & Management
    • Principles of Accountancy
    • Business Law and Secretarial Practice

Intermediate Examination : Students enrolled in the Company Secretaries course have to appear for the Intermediate Examination. Minimum qualification are Foundation course/Graduation or those eligible for exemption.

Final Examination :
Final Examination can be taken after 18 months of enrolling in the course and having undergone satisfactory postal or oral tuition for the particular group of final examination. Minimum qualifications are intermediate course. Subjects of final examination are detailed below :

Practical training : For membership to the Institute of Company Secretaries practical training under a practicing company secretary or with a company secretary firm is required. The duration is for 18 months though some exemptions are given to chartered accountants. This training includes brief placements with large public sector undertakings and stock exchanges.

Law is one of the most basic social institutions and perhaps the most necessary. It establishes the rules that define a person's rights and obligations. It also states how government shall enforce the rules and penalties.

A majority of lawyers are involved in private practice representating clients in the courts of law. Lawyers practice before judges in Subordinate courts, Administrative tribunals, High Courts and the Supreme Court.

After + 2 : (BA LL.B)

Students after Class XII can enter a 5 year course in Law for a BA LL.B (Hons.) degree.

Law courses for Graduates - LL.B.

LLB is a 3 year course for graduates. The LL.B course is conducted by most universities and their affiliated colleges in India. The degree entitles the graduate to practice law.

Selection Procedure : Selection procedure is divided into two stages :
(a) Written Test (b) Interview

    Courses : 5 year BA. LLB
    Eligibility : Students who have passed the Higher Secondary school examination 10+2 system or an equivalent examination securing 50% in all the core subjects and English language put together. The student should not be 20 years of age on July 1 of the year of admission (22 years for SC/ST).
    Selection– (Indian nationals) : Admission is made purely based on the merit in an admission test. The test is of 2 hours duration and is of objective type. Total marks are 200.
