  Health-Care Industry

Medical and health care sector is developing at a rapid rate with the research and discoveries of new drugs, treatments and cures. Modern technologies have given an almost new look to this sector. Surgical methods have undergone change. Instead of the simple surgical scalpel the use of lasers has brought far reaching results for patients. There are approximately forty different specialities for the physicians to choose from while in an MBBS course. They range from anesthesiology to urology, from radiology to opthalmology. A large number of medical graduates specialise in some branch of surgery.
  • MEDICINE
    • Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
The graduate medical education offers a bachelor's degree qualification known an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) to aspiring candidates. The course is 4˝ years of classroom study followed by a year of rotating internship that is a total of 5˝ years. The 4˝ years of medical classroom study is broken into 3 phases of 18 months each. Each professional, as it is called, is of 18 months duration and is divided into 3 semesters of 6 months each. There is a test/exam called as Semester exam after the end of each semester. Examinations are held at the end of each 'professional' and they are called Professional I or II or final examination. Last 1˝ years i.e. third professional is devoted to monthly clinical work in the wards and departments of the hospital. In all there are three professional examinations, followed by practical and clinical examinations.
    • Post Graduation MD / MS / DM / M.Ch.
Post graduation and super specialisation today is the need of the hour and 65-70 percent of all MBBS graduates try for post graduate qualification rather than going in for a job or practice. However, it is during internship that a student is able to decide his field of interests. His choice is based on large choice of subjects studied during MBBS such as :
• Surgery • Medicine • Microbiology • Dermatology • Obstetrics & Gynaecology • Psychiatry • Paediatrics • Otolaryngology • Bio-Chemistry • Radiology • Opthalmology • Pathology • Orthopaedic Surgery • Physiology • Anatomy • Preventive Medicine etc.
After specialisation there is a choice of further Super Specialisation such as :
• Neuro Surgeon • Paediatric Surgeon • Cardiologist • Nephrologist • Gastroenterologist • Cardiothorapic Surgeon • Genito-urinary Surgeon • Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon.
    • Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
Dental Surgeons have attained the status equal to that of medical practitioners. Dentistry is a very specialised profession. The Bachelor's course in dentistry is of 4 years and is divided into 4 parts, each part is of 1 year duration followed by a year of rotating internship. Admission to this course is made through competitive examination conducted alongwith MBBS entrance examinations.
    • Master of Dental Surgery (MDS)
